Purpose
Capital57 Ventures Pty Ltd ("Capital57") publishes this statement to describe the steps we take to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our business and supply chains. We publish it voluntarily, in advance of any statutory reporting threshold, as a matter of good governance.
Our business
Capital57 is a private venture capital manager domiciled in Sydney, Australia, operating with platform support from Abeer Portfolio and IBCAPEX. We invest capital into pre-seed and seed technology companies across the middle-power markets, with a particular focus on Australia, the GCC, APAC, MENA, and South Asia.
Our supply chain
As a fund manager, our direct supply chain is limited and consists primarily of professional services (legal, accounting, audit, tax, compliance), software and cloud services, workflow automation and communication tools, and office and administrative services. Each is procured from established providers operating in jurisdictions with mature labour protection regimes.
Policies
We are committed to compliance with the Modern Slavery Act 2018 (Cth), the UK Modern Slavery Act 2015 where applicable, and all analogous frameworks in the jurisdictions in which we operate. Our internal code of conduct, anti-bribery statement, and vendor onboarding process each reference modern slavery risk and require immediate escalation of any concern.
Risk assessment
We assess the risk of modern slavery in three areas:
- Our own operations. Our small headcount, all engaged under formal employment or contractor agreements in jurisdictions with mature labour protections, presents low residual risk.
- Our direct suppliers. We select established professional services and software providers subject to strong domestic labour regimes. We regard the direct supplier risk as low.
- Our portfolio companies. As minority venture investors, we do not control portfolio company operations. Where we invest in sectors with elevated modern slavery risk, including agriculture, logistics, and construction technology, we raise the topic during diligence and expect founders to adopt and maintain appropriate policies.
Due diligence
Where a supplier or portfolio company operates in a sector or jurisdiction with elevated modern slavery risk, we conduct enhanced diligence including targeted written enquiry, reference checks, and, where warranted, on-site review.
Training
All Capital57 personnel are briefed on modern slavery indicators and on the reporting channels available to them.
Effectiveness
We review this statement annually and refine our approach in light of experience, regulatory change, and portfolio growth.
